Senior leaders – Pat and Theresa Forbes

Pat and Theresa Forbes serve as the senior leaders at Covenant Family Church.  They have four daughters, and eight grandchildren.  Pat and Theresa enjoy spending time with their family, and especially look forward to times when everyone is able to be together. They moved to Mankato in 2002 to pastor Covenant Family Church, and have a desire to see God transform the lives of people in this city.  They have a real-life, practical approach to seeing people walk in all that God has for them.  Isaiah 61:1 is one of their favorite scriptures: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

Leaders – Tim and Becky West

Tim and Becky West serve on the leadership team at Covenant Family Church, and bring encouragement wherever they go!  They have two sons and eight grandchildren, but also have both Tim’s mother and Becky’s parents living with and near them.  They value family relationships, and have a desire to see families function the way God created them to.  Tim and Becky enjoy spending time working on projects that allow their creativity to flow; with Becky specializing in anything arts and crafts and Tim focusing on construction.  Their favorite scripture is Romans 15:6, “…that we may with one mind and one mouth glorify God.”

Leaders – Phil and Gena Hernandez

Phil and Gena Hernandez serve on the leadership team at Covenant Family Church.  They moved to Mankato in 1994, because they felt God leading them to return to the Midwest from Washington.  They have four children, one son-in-law, one grandson and have a desire to see the next generation follow hard after God.  Both Phil and Gena work in the medical field, and take advantage of opportunities God gives them to share their faith and offer peace to people who are struggling with health issues.  One of their favorite scriptures is in Proverbs: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Who We Are

Covenant Family Church was established in 2002, led by Pat and Theresa Forbes, formerly a part of the leadership team at Covenant Harvest Church in Pittsburg, KS. They have four adult daughters; Jennifer (husband Joshua), Heather (husband John), Kristen (husband Anthony) and Stephanie (husband Matt). The church is built on the foundations of genuine, heartfelt worship of the most high God, and authentic relationships. We’re “a family on a mission.”

Covenant Family Church began in a home in Mankato on Easter Sunday, 1994. From the very beginning, our desire was to see people experience the life-changing power of Jesus Christ, connect relationally, and be agents of change in our city and beyond. The church, then called Christian Life Center (CLC), met for several years in Hoover Elementary School before moving to the old Riverfront West building.

In late 2000, Riverfront West was torn down to make room for new construction, while CLC went through some shaking as well, in the form of a major leadership transition. This eventually led to Pat and Theresa Forbes and their family moving to Mankato from Pittsburg, Kansas to pastor the church. The name was changed to Covenant Family Church in 2003, in recognition of the work we believe God to be doing among us.

Today, we are a thriving, growing congregation of people from both near and far, with diverse backgrounds but a common desire to see lives transformed by the power of God. We invite you to join us and experience God’s presence in our midst.

What We Do

Mission:

Our purpose is to make disciples who passionately love God, love others, and impact the culture around them for Jesus Christ. This will happen as we intentionally connect, grow, and serve.

Connect

We endeavor to connect with God:

  • Through a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Through worship, both corporate and personal.

We endeavor to connect with people:

  • Through God – centered, authentic relationships within the church.
  • By building relational bridges to non-believers in order to win them to Christ.

Grow

We are committed to long term spiritual growth:

  • Through Bible study and prayer.
  • By being in honest, accountable relationships with other believers.
  • Through identifying and walking in our graces and calls to ministry.

Serve

We serve God by serving one another: at home, in the church, as well as in our local and global communities:

  • By meeting people’s practical needs.
  • By meeting people’s spiritual needs.
